Liberal Arts Academy
Welcome to the Liberal Arts Academy at Henry Clay
The Liberal Arts Academy at Henry Clay High School was established with the first freshmen class during the 1999-2000 school year to meet the needs of gifted students within the 9th stanine in general intelligence and total battery achievement. This program is designed for students who desire to participate in a small learning community of like ability peers and want to be challenged with rigorous curriculum in all subject areas. The Liberal Arts Academy at Henry Clay challenges its students in all disciplines with required Academy and AP courses that are specifically designed or adapted for the Academy’s Gifted and Talented population. These courses combine acceleration, differentiation, and enrichment to stimulate and extend student learning. The required Academy Seminars and Academic Mentoring offer opportunities for in-depth exploration and independent study outside of the typical classroom.
Qualified students are offered placement in the Academy as freshmen and on a space available basis as sophomores. Parents/students must submit a completed application to the Office of the Gifted and Magnet Education by October 7th. Please refer to the prospective students page for more information regarding the application process and eligibility requirements.
The Academy curriculum is rigorous. The school day is longer with a zero hour class required during the freshman, junior and senior years. Academy students will be expected to work at the college level in most of their courses. To remain in good standing, students must maintain a strong GPA and successfully complete the program of studies.
The Liberal Arts Academy at Henry Clay has an accelerated curriculum encouraging students to explore many interests and talents in preparation for future pursuits. Please visit our class profiles page to explore some of the opportunities presented to past graduating classes.
